A three-day Child Protection Workshop in Karl Kübel Institute for Development Education (KKID), Coimbatore - India
Online registrationApril, 18th to 20th, 2012 (www.kkid.org)
Abuse of children and vulnerable persons is a worldwide issue, existing in both developed and developing countries. It is deeply rooted in cultural, economic and social practices. 1,9 billion (86%) of the world's 2,2 billion children live in developing countries and most of them in extreme poverty. They are in need of special protection and provision. It is not only the task of the official development aid, but also the task of non-governmental organisations and their partners to strengthen the rights of these children, enhance their development opportunities and protect them against possible hazards.
Objectives
- Participants have a clear understanding of the legal framework of child rights and child protection and how it applies in their national and local context.
- Participants are familiar with different forms of abuse and maltreatment of children and know procedures and strategies of prevention.
- Participants are in a position to develop a Plan of Action as basis for the elaboration of a Child Protection Policy for their own organisation or institution.
Content
After having explored the legal framework of child rights and child protection as well as the different cultural attitudes and values about children and childhood, the workshop also focuses on the illustration and definitions of different forms of child abuse. Through practical examples and concrete exercises the participants share their own experiences gained from the field work in order to elaborate a mutual understanding on critical and warning challenges while working with children.
