Mr. Karl Kübel: A source of inspiration to become a social work professional (Part 4)

I had the fortune to be involved in the process of setting up Karl Kübel Institute for Development Education (KKID) in Coimbatore. From 1996 to 2002 I was the Executive Secretary of Cyriac Elias Voluntary Organization (CEVA), the Coordinating agency of the development projects supported by Karl Kübel Stiftung (KKS). As there was delay in establishing the Institute due to various legal huddles, a project under the title Training of Personnel of Development Projects (TPDP) was started, CEVA being the legal holder. This provided me a lot of opportunity to organize as well as to participate in many training programmes for the project personnel. I continued to take interest in designing and implementing various training programmes even after the establishment of KKID in 1999.

What I have learned from Mr. Kübel and working with Karl Kübel Stiftung is that in order to become an effective development professional one should have a deep commitment to the empowerment of the poor coupled with knowledge and skills which need to be enhanced through a process of continuous learning. I am grateful to Mr. Karl Kübel and KKS for the inspiration and opportunity to train myself a development professional. My mission at present is the professional empowerment of the development personnel working at the grass root level, with special focus on women religious. My role as a Development Consultant to some funding agencies including CARITAS India gives me a lot of opportunities to be in touch with these groups and contribute to their professional growth.
