Project Theme
Global Society can only improve if the individual improves in his or her own capacities. Education / access to education are the main keys for improving ourselves. The support to a kindergarten is the first but most important step to realise the importance of education and that to the children early in their formative years. Infact this is one of the dreams of our founder.

Project Objective
Establishing a full fledged ‘Kindergarten' for the tribal village ‘Panapalli', at a motorable distance of 7 kms from the institute's premises in Mankarai, Coimbatore

Background

The village Panapalli has a population of 253 consisting of about 60 families. The people generally earn their livelihood either working in the nearby brick kilns or small scale animal husbandry or agricultural coolie work. The village falls under the purview of ‘Periyanaickenpalayam forest range'.

There are no formal schools or kindergarten in the village at present. The nearest school is at Kondanur which is about 3 kms away from the village and the children walk to this primary school every day. There are approximately 25 children from the village attending this school at present.

There are 25 children in the age group of 3-5 at present consisting of 16 boys and 9 girls.

Currently a government sponsored noon meal center is functioning in the village but only ‘meal' is served in the place.

Proposal

It is proposed to construct a 20x12 square feet (approximately 22.30 square meters) reinforced concrete structure, having a 14'x12' class room, a kitchen and a store in the building. The land will be people's contribution and we shall try and locate this land near to the toilets already constructed in village so that toilet construction for this building is avoided.

The kindergarten will also enable the children have the instruments for joyful learning, visual and other state of art pedagogy.

During the day it will function as a ‘kindergarten' and in the evening as a tuition center. Local self groups will monitor the functioning and they will work closely with the government to continue the noon meal scheme. Running costs are foreseen for the first year only and the subsequent years will be with KKF support and peoples' participation. Food will be the complement from the government as it is now.

KKID will also network with various stakes to ensure sustainability of the venture. Presently the land is owned by community.
