»In the course of my life I have realized that the narrow sense of the human existence can be gained by being of service, taking account of the requirements of our fellow-men. This being of service is the original duty of the individual as the participant of the creation of God. Hence, I have become a founder considering this concept of mutuality.« (Karl Kübel)

Centenary Project Germany

"Drop In, look inside, Gel buraya" for parents and children in the children day-care centre of the evangelic community Stephanus in Bensheim

Initiators and Project holder
Project holders are the children day-care centre of the evangelic community Stephanus in Bensheim in co-operation with the women and family centre Bensheim and Karl Kübel foundation for children and family.

Motivation for the Project
In the surroundings of the children day-care centre lots of families live under stress situations like financial shortage, unemployment and a lack of integration. The children and their families often can not provide sufficient education and support offerings, which could enhance a promising life.

The difficult environment has negative impacts on the development of a positive parents-children-relationship. Estrangement, negligence and other misguided developments can be the consequence.

The idea is to offer families in the district a drop-in centre, with consulting services for parents and educational opportunities for children. An experienced social pedagogue is going to take care of the drop-in centre.

  • The drop-in is focused on preventive measures in the fields of health and education.
Most playgrounds in the area are not age-based. Other factors like a lack of hygiene and the fear of swallowing small pieces lead parents to lower the children's opportunities to play outside and to do exercise.
  • Especially the mothers think that exercise is an important issue for their children's development. But qualitative information about the necessity of exercise with helpful hints for the daily life is often missing.
  • Because of financial shortage lots of children and parents in the district are not able to experience music.
  • The drop-in offers help concerning all kind of parenting questions. But also parents can go there to relax in a positive environment knowing that somebody is taking good care of their children. There are playing suggestions for the children, but also age-based exercising possibilities.
  • Parents and trainers can observe and support the children with their movement and coordination.
  • Children would have the possibility to test their personal abilities and skills in a protective environment.
  • Short film excerpts about the development of movement can extend the comprehension and observance of the children.

Demand for support

A founding with 5000€/year can assure that a social pedagogue will be taking care of the drop-in for 4 hours/week for a year. With higher founding an extension is always possible.
Altogether the drop-in would offer infants and small children, mainly from disadvantaged (often migration) backgrounds, a better start into life, by supporting them with development and education possibilities.
